Adeyinka Alake

Contemporary Artist

Adeyinka Alake (b. 2000, London) is a British Nigerian contemporary artist whose practice combines figurative painting, portraiture, and symbolic imagery to explore identity, heritage, memory, and transformation. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, she draws upon Yoruba cultural references, personal history, and contemporary narratives to create works that investigate belonging and lived experience. Her series And Then There Was Light reflects on the experiences that have shaped her artistic journey, exploring themes including British Nigerian identity, healthcare, relationships, and personal growth through interconnected visual narratives. Her on-going body of work, Now You See Me, Now You Don't, examines visibility, perception, and representation within the Black experience, questioning how Black individuals are recognised, overlooked, and understood in contemporary society. Through her practice, Alake creates work that encourages dialogue around culture, identity, and the complexities of the human experience. Her work has been featured in 100 Emerging Artworks 2025 and exhibited at venues including Barbican Arts Group Trust, Dandi Battersea, and Westfield London.
