Neli Carlos Luis
Spiritual Artist
Neli Carlos Luis explores the relationship between presence and absence, the visible and invisible, and the space between memory and identity. Drawing inspiration from the Mozambican spiritual ceremony Nhamussoro, his work investigates how imagination constructs images of those who are physically absent yet emotionally present. Through disfigured, surreal, and stylised forms, Luis creates works that exist between memory and reality. His practice reflects on ancestral connection, collective remembrance, and the human desire to visualise what cannot be seen. By translating intangible experiences into evocative imagery, he invites viewers to consider the boundaries between the material and spiritual worlds.
